Payment Failure and Error Response

Q1. Why did my payment fail?

A1. Payment failures through Paddle usually occur for the following reasons:

  • Expired card
  • Insufficient funds or credit limit
  • Card issuer declined the transaction
  • PayPal auto-billing disabled
  • Bank blocked online/overseas recurring payments
  • Temporary Paddle or card network issues

Q2. What happens to my subscription when a payment fails?

A2. our subscription will be placed “On Hold.” During this period:

  • New content downloads are restricted
  • New licenses cannot be issued
  • Team features (inviting or removing members) may be limited

Existing licensed content remains usable within existing projects.


Q3. How can I complete the payment after it fails?

A3. Please follow the steps below depending on the situation.

1) If the failure was caused by a temporary issue

Paddle may automatically retry the payment 1–2 times using the same payment method.
If the retry succeeds, your subscription will return to Active status.

Common temporary reasons include:

  • Network or gateway delays
  • Issuing bank’s temporary decline
  • Card security check failures
  • PayPal payment confirmation delays

2) If you need to update your payment method

If the payment fails repeatedly, or you want to use a new card or update your PayPal settings:

  1. Go to [My Account > Subscription Details]
  2. Click [Update Payment Method]
  3. You’ll be redirected to the Paddle Billing Portal
  4. Enter your new card information or update your PayPal authorization
  5. After updating:
    • Paddle automatically attempts to recharge any failed payment
    • The updated payment method will be used for all future renewals

[Important Notes]

  • GoodPello does not store your card details.
    All payment information is securely managed by Paddle’s encrypted billing system.
  • Only card information can be updated directly.
  • Switching between payment types (Card ↔ PayPal) is NOT supported on an active subscription:
    -  To switch payment type, you must:
    1. Cancel the current subscription
    2. Re-subscribe using the new payment method
  • The Billing Portal displays up-to-date subscription status, payment history, and receipts.

Q4. Will I receive alerts for failed payments?

A4. Yes. 

  • Paddle sends an automatic email notification for every failed attempt.
  • Your subscription will show as “On Hold” in your GoodPello account.

Q5. What happens if the failure continues for several days?

A5. If payment continues to fail after multiple retries (typically 3–5 attempts), the subscription will automatically expire.

Once expired:

  • Content downloads stop
  • New licenses cannot be issued
  • Project registration may be limited

You can re-subscribe anytime with a valid payment method.
